Born March 28, 1905 in Tokyo, Okano Itsuro (Okano Kinsaku) studied Itsudō-ha Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Ikeda Itsuren. He started teaching in 1934 and belonged to the Shakuhachi Itsuren-kai. He was active as a performer and teacher for more than 50 years.
